Water Softener Systems
Single or twin softeners that remove hardness and protect boilers and heat exchangers from scale.
Overview
Overview
Water hardness — high levels of calcium and magnesium salts — is the most common cause of scale in boilers, heaters, heat exchangers and production lines. Even a thin layer of deposits reduces heat transfer, raises fuel consumption and shortens equipment life.
A softener is the direct answer: an ion-exchange unit that captures hardness ions, replaces them with sodium and is then regenerated with brine. Aqua System has installed softeners for clients in fertilizers, automotive and mining, and supplies replacement resin and the complementary boiler treatment chemicals.
Single or twin unit?
A single unit suits operations that can tolerate a short stop during regeneration. For continuous duty — boiler feed, for example — we recommend a twin softener: one vessel is in service while the other regenerates, so soft water never stops.
A softener is not always enough
A softener removes hardness but does not lower total dissolved solids or prevent corrosion. In boilers it is usually combined with a suitable chemical program of scale and corrosion inhibitors, and in some cases reverse osmosis is the better answer. We help you choose the right combination.
Problems we solve
Challenges this service addresses
-
Scale in boilers and heaters
Deposits that cut heat transfer and raise fuel use.
-
Fouled heat exchangers
Deposits narrow the passages, lower efficiency and cause breakdowns.
-
High detergent consumption
Hard water makes detergents less effective in washing and cleaning.
-
Repeated failures and downtime
Frequent descaling and higher repair costs.
System & treatment method
How the treatment works
-
Pre-filtration
A cartridge or sand filter protects the resin from suspended solids.
-
Resin vessel
Cation resin captures calcium and magnesium.
-
Control head
Runs service, backwash and brine draw cycles.
-
Brine tank
Prepares the regeneration solution.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I know I need a softener?
White scale in boilers, heaters or exchangers, or a water analysis showing hardness that is high for your use, usually means a softener is needed. Read our hardness guide or send us your analysis.
What salt is used for regeneration?
A salt grade intended for softener regeneration. We specify the type and quantity at handover.
Does a softener replace boiler chemicals?
No. The softener removes hardness, but the boiler still needs protection from corrosion and condensate control — the job of the chemical program.
Do you replace old softener resin?
Yes. We supply the resin, empty and re-bed the vessel and reset the unit.
